A Murder, She Wrote movie starring Jamie Lee Curtis has been delayed from Dec. 2027 to Feb. 2028, per Variety

Curtis will take over the iconic Jessica Fletcher role originated in by Angela Lansbury in the long-running TV series

A long-awaited return to Cabot Cove will take a little longer than expected.

The big-screen revival of beloved television series Murder, She Wrote, starring Jamie Lee Curtis has officially been pushed back to 2028, per Variety.

According to the outlet, Universal Pictures has shifted the film's release date from Dec. 22, 2027, to Feb. 4, 2028.

While the studio did not provide a reason for the delay, the new date places the film a bit further away from a crowded holiday release schedule set to include a number of big-budget films, including Avengers: Secret Wars, The Lord of the Rings: Hunt for Gollum and The Housemaid's Secret — all set to debut on Dec. 17, 2027.

Curtis is set to step into the role of Jessica Fletcher, the sharp-witted mystery writer and amateur detective famously portrayed by Angela Lansbury in the original television series.

Murder, She Wrote ran for 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996 and followed Fletcher as she unraveled crimes in the idyllic (but murder-prone) town of Cabot Cove, Maine.

Variety notes that, before she takes on Fletcher's investigative instincts, Curtis is set to appear in a pair of 2026 indie films: the psychological thriller Sender and the crime drama The Only Living Pickpocket in New York.

Curtis confirmed the project in July 2025, telling Entertainment Tonight of the reboot: “Oh it's... happening."

“We're a minute away. But very excited. Very excited," the Oscar winner added. “But I'm tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple other things to hustle and then I'll get to enjoy that work.”
