Stranger Things star Maya Hawke has been dating Christian Lee Hutson for almost four years.

They have worked together on Hawke’s two albums.

The couple is very discreet about their relationship.

Actress Maya Hawke has been dating musician Christian Lee Hutson for the last four years, though the couple has been fairly discreet in their relationship. They haven’t made many official public appearances, but were photographed in April 2025 supporting Hawke’s Stranger Things co-star, Sadie Sink. Sink was debuting in John Proctor Is the Villain at Booth Theater in New York City.

The pair seem to still be going strong as Hawke’s famous Netflix show comes up on its final season. Here’s everything to know about Hutson and his relationship with Hawke so far.

Who is Christian Lee Hutson?

Hutson is a musician and songwriter who grew up in Santa Monica, per his bio on All Music, but he told The Line of Best Fit in 2024 that his first love was fiction writing.

“I was an old man as a child,” he said. “My parents asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up and I was like: ‘I would like to write novels and short fiction.’ My parents got me a guitar when I was 12, right at the time when the biggest things in the world were pop punk. It was all pretty approachable music. The night that I first got the guitar, I learned how to play a blink-182 song and it was like, ‘Whoa, this is awesome.’ I could just play this song that I listened to on the radio.”

He continued, “By the time I was 13 years old, I was like, ‘I don’t know if I could be a novelist now, but I like music.’”

Hutson left college early and also left a music conservatory program in California.

“At this point, something I loved to do was drop out of school,” he joked, adding that he spent his 20s touring. He met Phoebe Bridgers in 2018, and it changed the trajectory of his career. They started working together and he went on to collaborate with Bridgers and her band Boygenius, with Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, writing several songs for their debut.

Bridgers helped produce Hutson’s 2020 album Beginners, as well as his follow-ups, 2022’s Quitters and 2024’s Paradise Pop. 10. Hawke actually appears on Paradise Pop. 10.

In a 2021 Interview Magazine discussion with Margaret Qualley, she discussed working on her first album, Moss, and collaborating with Hutson.

“Christian Lee Hutson, who is an unbelievable writer, got involved,” she shared. “And I sent him some poems, and he sent me back some unbelievable songs.”

How did they meet?

In February 2022, the Daily Mail reported the pair had been spotted in Manhattan, romantically linking them in public for the first time. They started working together a few years earlier on Hawke’s album, Moss. In December 2023, photos of them sharing a kiss were posted by the Daily Mail as well, seemingly confirming the romance. They also occasionally share pics of one another on Instagram.

They worked together again on Hawke”s 2024 album Chaos Angel.

In July 2024, Hawke talked about working with him on the Zach Sang Show.

“It is awesome,” she gushed. “I mean, I cannot recommend highly enough dating your friends. It’s the best. They know you, and as a human being who has dated other people. They really know you as a person who has feelings... not just a piece of paper for them to project their image of perfect girlfriend onto.”

Are they married?

Hawke was photographed in a white wedding dress on Feb. 14, 2026, walking through the streets of New York City with her family and Hutson. People confirmed the Valentine’s Day wedding and shared pictures of Maya accompanied by her father, Ethan Hawke, and mother, Uma Thurman. Thurman was wearing a pale blue dress with a floral print and Ethan wore a black suit over a black button-down shirt. Maya’s brother, Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke, was also in attendance.

Maya’s sleeveless gown had a full skirt with ruffles and she accessorized with a white coat trimmed in white feathers. Her hair was in an elegant updo and pinned with a veil. Hutson wore a classic black tux with a white waistcoat.

In photos shared on social media from Backgrid, most of the cast of Stranger Things could be seen in attendance, along with other celebrity guest, including Gaten Matarazzo, Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Joe Keery, Caleb McLaughlin, Charlie Heaton, Kathryn Newton, Sam Nivola, and Iris Apatow.
